Dec 28: Benjamin Franklin meets with Achat de Bonvouloir in Philadelphia to initiate discussions between the U.S. and France. Charles Cook (Carpenters Hall in PA) writes the script for a 100-minute video -- "Tête á Tête" -- to commemorate these first discussions (see Activities page)

Oct 19: U.S. victory at Saratoga tips balance toward France recognizing the U.S. Oct 19: Many re-enactors participate in re-creating the battle of Saratoga.

Feb 6: France and U.S. sign a Treaty of Amity and Commerce (and also a Treaty of Military Alliance)
May 6: at Valley Forge the Continental Army celebrates the treaties with a feu de joie (celebratory gunfire)
Feb 6: members of the SAR and DAR and Society of the Cincinnati and W3R-US celebrate (in Philadelphia and in Paris) the 225th anniversary of the signing
May 6: feu de joie at Valley Forge by 300 re-enactors to commemorate the anniversary of this event.

Oct 9&10: re-enactment (twice) of the French/U.S. attack on British-held Savannah GA See Our Georgia History
Oct 14-17: Lee Anderson's   "Walking in the Footsteps of History": from Elkton MD to Annapolis MD to Williamsburg and Yorktown VA.
Oct 19: Yorktown Day (223rd anniv) See the Yorktown Victory Center
Nov 11: Providence RI; 8:30 AM ceremony honoring the Rev. War French Troops buried in the North Burial Ground (Branch Avenue & North Main Street - into the graveyard halfway and slightly to the right) conducted by le Regiment Bourbonnais (a recreation of one of Rochambeau's regiments).
Nov 20: Lebanon CT release and signing of W3R Tour Book and book on Hussars
Dec 5: At 11 AM the Massachusetts Society of the SAR ceremony at the monument for Campsite #54 in Dedham MA. Take I-95 to Exit 15 to Dedham MA. Town Hall is on Washington St. Go two blocks south and take Marsh St.(one way, west). Monument is at corner with Court St.

1780 ================= 2005 =================
  Apr 22: Wilmington DE - Dedication of a sign (funded by SAR and DAR) describing the five-month stay of Lauzun's Legion in 1782-83.
 

 

 

July 10: Newport RI - Rochambeau arrives with 5,400 troops.

June 20-24: Delaware - Ralph Nelson taught a section on "France and the American Revolution" at the Delaware Heritage Commission's High School summer camp on Colonial History.
July 8-10: Newport RI held a re-enactment of the arrival of the French Expeditionary Force, with hundreds of re-enactors, a parade, and a tactical battle demonstration. The Rhode Island Society SAR and the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America, provided a pavillion of counsellors for the American Heritage merit badge. The France Society SAR was here for two days as part of a bus tour of W3R sites in CT and NY.
Aug 6&7: Sturbridge Village MA - "From Redcoats to Rebels", an encampment with drills and parades.
Nov 12: Lebanon CT - Lauzun's hussars set-up winter camp Oct 1 & 2: W3R Encampment on the Green in Lebanon CT; 400 re-enactors provided cavalry drills, cannon demonstrations, and a display featuring towns along the W3R. Installation of the first W3R interpretive sign in CT.
Oct 16: East Hartford CT -- Installation of second W3R interpretive sign in CT.
